Manchester United are in pole position to sign Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez this summer.
That is according to The Mirror who report Saul’s representatives have been given permission from the La Liga champions to negotiate a transfer, and United and Liverpool are two sides that have been heavily linked with the Spaniard in recent weeks.
While it’s said that Saul’s agent will now fly to England with the hope of engineering a move for the midfielder, it’s reported that United are leading the race for his signature and that the player wants the uncertainty surrounding his future to be solved swiftly.
Saul, 26, made 41 appearances across all competitions for Atletico last season and over the years he’s built a reputation as one of Europe’s finest players, boasting a varied skillset on the ball which could offer United the perfect balance they need in midfield.

It’s also claimed that he could be available for between £35m and £40m, which seems reasonable for a player of his profile.
In more transfer news, The Sun claim United are growing increasingly confident about signing Erling Haaland next summer.
The MEN understand United identified Haaland as the perfect long-term Romelu Lukaku replacement towards the end of last term but the transfer links went quiet when Borussia Dortmund refused to sell this year and Edinson Cavani signed a contract extension.
However, the fresh details suggest Haaland’s strong relationship with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could help United land the Norwegian at the end of next season – the 21-year-old is currently the world’s most sought-after forward after scoring 41 goals for Dortmund last season.
