The Los Angeles Lakers are the NBA franchise that generate the most speculation in terms of their future and roster.
Despite an underwhelming 2021/22 season the Lakers have not made any significant changes to their roster and while the team is performing better than it did at the start of the year (8-12 record), the future of players like Russell Westbrook continue to be a source of speculation.
One possible scenario that was drawn up by NBA expert Bill Simmons was that the Lakers trade Westbrook along with their first round draft picks for 2027 and 2029 in exchange for Chicago Bulls‘ DeMar DeRozan and Orlando Magic‘s Nikola Vucevic.
Other possible departures
While Westbrook remains the most high profile player likely to depart the Lakers the futures of Kendrick Nunn and Patrick Beverley are also uncertain.
Neither has lived up to their billing and the Los Angeles side could be tempted to trade them for rotational players better suited to their system.
Finally the Lakers may also be tempted to part ways with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the team’s two biggest stars though this would be a drastic call from the organization and would require a lot of nerve to execute.
