According to a league source, Oubre, 25, is finalizing a multi-year deal with the Charlotte Hornets. The Athletic reported that it’s a two-year contract that’ll earn him more than $26 million.
This comes after months of speculation about whether Oubre would return to the Warriors, with whom he averaged 15.4 points, six rebounds and 30.7 minutes per game over 55 games (50 starts) last season. In recent weeks, Oubre has been critical of his time with Golden State, saying he was “put in a box” by the organization.
Still, the Warriors had considered the possibility of involving Oubre in a sign-and-trade. Though Golden State didn’t view him as a part of its long-term future, it was interested in dealing him for a trade exception.
No such move materialized, however, and Oubre landed with a Charlotte team that should suit his up-temp style.
