Everton target scores to set up final with Richarlison’s Brazil

Another player who is supposedly a transfer target for Everton scored Spain’s winner in the Olympic semi-final and will now face his potential future team-mate in the final.

Marco Asensio came off the substitutes bench to net his country’s winner in their semi-final against Mexico and Spain will play Everton forward Richarlison’s Brazil for gold on Saturday.

Strangely Asensio was also playing against another player being linked with the Toffees; Mexico’s right-back Jorge Sanchez.

The Real Madrid and Spain forward has it seems become another player surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu as the Spanish giants, like so many others, look to rebuild and reduce their wage bill under ex-Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti.

And Everton are still apparently in the market for another wide attacker after getting Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray in.

Both new additions have done reasonably well when on tour with their new team in the US and Gray also got on the scoresheet but the feeling is that another attacking player is needed and still wanted by Rafa Benitez.

More from Prince Rupert’s Tower

There have been lots of rumours about other players like Dwight McNeil and they have now been linked with a move for the 25-year-old Spanish forward as well.

Asensio is a player who on paper anyway would ideally suit what the Blues need as they look for one more wide attacking talent.

He’s a versatile forward at home playing on both flanks and through the middle as well.

And with Los Blancos desperate to shift players off their books he would be available for a significantly reduced fee, which suits the Toffees newly reduced financial circumstances too.

Asensio could play alongside the existing new signings in a three man attack behind centre-forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin and or Richarlison, as indeed could other potential targets like McNeil.

He can also play as an orthodox winger too if his manager wants to play a 4-4-2 but of course it’s all just speculation as we wait for further signings to come through the door at Finch Farm.
